Thanks to YouTube, I have some wonderful video clips for you to view. As they say, one picture saves a thousand words.
Start with this one from Crufts dog show. It shows one well trained dog challenged to perform. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sknEaZHHbhc
Rally O: The new kid on the block On January 07 2007, the Belleville and District Kennel Club held Canada’s first CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) sanctioned (practice match) Canadian Rally Obedience Trial. On March 24 2007, the same Club held Canada’s first approved Rally Obedience Trial for Novice A and Novice B. So, what exactly is Rally? Rally is a new dog sport taking North America by storm. It is fun competition that utilizes modern training techniques using motivational strategies. It evolves from the Canine Good Citizen, traditional dog obedience and agility. Depending on the level of experience, the rally course includes 10 to 20 stations. Every station (sign) is posted with instructions on what the next exercise will be. To start, the handler and dog are signaled by the judge to begin. The handler and dog traverse the course at their pace and follow all the instructions at the stations. The handler and dog have to work as a team, doing turns, sits, healing etc. Handlers are permitted to talk, praise and encourage their dog, however; no physical corrections are permitted. Loud and intimidating sounds towards the dog are penalized. Rally is meant to be fun and exciting, minus any punitive measures. Here is a video clip from youtube I managed to find. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=P12Ywu0a124
Agility A competitive sport that tests the skill level of a handler and dog over a timed obstacle course. The dog is instructed to to maneuver various obstacles such as hurdles, ramps, tunnels, see-saws, weave through poles, etc. Scoring is similar to what you would see at equestrian events. http://youtube.com/watch?v=cPtUzdDkYzo Flyball A canine sport that is similar to the 100 yard dash and relay race with hurdles, except where the finish line would normally be, there is a spring loaded box that releases a tennis ball when the box paddle is depressed. The dog then catches the ball and races back to the starting line, where the next team dog repeats the exercise. The dogs race against another team positioned in the lane next to them. http://youtube.com/watch?v=qUvuKoOYwHs
